Wow, fantastic, extraordinary, tremendous, marvelous, awesome, dilly-dilly! No matter what adjective you’d use to describe our recent trip to Telluride it all came down to one amazing outing! However, it would be very remiss of me if I did not first send special thanks out to Jeannie Conway for organizing and planning this event. She had to meet several challenges, which included cancellations and last minute changes. She stepped up to the plate on all of them. Thank you so much Jeannie, for a job well done!
Let’s talk a little about our trip to Telluride. Can you believe the weather we had for the entire week? Dumped on with snow a few days before we arrived, then bright and sunny with highs near fifty degrees almost the entire time we were there? It was almost too good to be true! And the skiing? Everyone I spoke to, whether it was a skier or snowboarder who enjoyed green, blue, black or double black runs said the skiing was excellent. We obviously came there at just the right time.
Congratulations go out to all that participated in the NASTAR races; it was fun, it was challenging and for those of us like me that had never really done it before, it was just exciting to finish! Hats off to those that won medals, you were phenomenal and put Powder Dogs on the map as one of the CMCSC clubs to be reckoned with in the world of NASTAR. It is my understanding that Kelly is going to provide us with a presentation on the races as well as awarding the medals to all the winners at our next Powder Dogs meeting.

Telluride 2020

The Powderdogs headed out to Telluride, Co for their annual ski adventure from January 23-28, 2020.

It was a great trip which included terrific skiing (all runs were groomed, including the higher elevations), beautiful scenery, wonderful food, a nice place to stay, a toasty hot tub and a gondola system that could even be used as public transportation. What should also be mentioned here is the wonderful weather, especially the first three days of skiing. It was bright sunshine all day with temperatures reaching the mid 30’s. The 4th day of skiing was also good, especially for those who liked fresh snow and light amber goggles, as an additional four to five inches fell during the day.

Many of the Powderdogs participated in NASTAR. Kelly noted it was a very fair course, and those that entered had a good and fun challenge.

Some Powderdogs opted not to ski, but took advantage of the many shopping and spa opportunities that existed in the close by mountain village area as well as the old mining town of Telluride. This is where using the gondola as public transportation came into great use, as you could ride them for free to the mountain village and all the way over the mountain top into Telluride.

Dining on this trip was also a good experience. Allred’s in the mountain village was a nice evening for fine cuisine. Many dined on Elk, Bison, and other types of unique dishes that were available. The views from the restaurant windows were another perk of this evening and were breathtaking. Other dining took place in Telluride at the Floradora Saloon, a wonderful Mexican food eatery called Esperanza, and a closing night ski club dinner for all Powderdogs at the place we stayed, the Mountain Lodge.

It was a wonderful trip; thanks go out to Jeannie and Kelly for putting it all together.
