Usually our most attended summer event, the Venetian Party is all about a group of boaters who decorate their boats in different themes and cruise down the Fox River showing them off. Some are funny, some are entertaining. Either way, they are great to watch as they come down the river. Jim and Jeannie are very gracious in offering their home that is on the Fox River so we have front row seat while we have a party. Only paid members are sent a private invitation to this event.
Trip Update: Check out the Powder Dogs Facebook page for Lynn's post detailing this event.

At the paddleboard outing, everyone got a 30 minute beginner stand up paddleboard lesson from one of the Board House instructors. After the lesson, everyone got 90 minutes of on water fun. The Board House is one of the best places to paddle board. It's on a 330 acre lake with crystal clear water that has 8 islands, 5 bays, plenty of fish and wildlife to see, and NO motor boats to create waves. At 12 noon, there was a Jimmy John's lunch.
Recap 2020: Even though is drizzled a bit Rick, Jim, Karen, Cindy and I went on a paddle around Three Oaks South Lake. Rick gave paddling pro tips to make everyone able to paddle easier and more efficiently.
Recap 2017: We couldn't have a better weather day. Sunny, low 80's and a 10 mph winds. 12 people showed up and received a lesson from the head instructor of the Board House and then enjoyed 90 minutes of fun on the water to enjoy one of the best lakes in northern Illinois for paddleboarding.

Everyone received a Level 1 Stand Up Paddleboard lesson for FREE, compliment's of Alpine Accessories instructors. Everyone learned how to size and hold your paddle correctly, how to paddle and control your board, how and where to stand on the board and how to get back on if you fall. After lessons, we had some time practicing and participants had fun competing against each other on a buoyed course. Then at 1:00 some members stuck around for a picnic.
The Beach Party is a time for the Powder Dogs to get together and have fun along the Fox River for the afternoon. The party starts at noon. Weather permitting, Jim will be offering boat rides, water skiing and tubing. Bring a dish to pass. Hot Dogs, hamburgers, soda, provided by the Powder Dogs. Jim and Jeannie are very gracious in offering their home that is on the Fox River for the party.
We had the Lake Atwood shelter reserved which was located just 50 feet from the lake.
Stand Up Paddleboarding lessons were given by Rick. During one of the lessons, Debb Schnoor was attempting to stand up when 40 mph winds came up all of a sudden and pushed her into the water loosing her prescription sunglasses. After the winds subsided and the water became calm, she tried again and got up but during this time Laurie was looking in the water where she fell and spotted her sunglasses on the bottom of the lake in about 10 feet of water. That's how clear the water is at Lake Atwood. Thank you Mike Nelson for diving down and getting her sunglasses.
Stand Up paddleboard fun races - Competitors left the beach at the same time each on their own paddleboard. They had to navigate around an island, go backwards, beach the board and get a rubber ducky and come back to the beach. Sammy won the under 18 class with Gina and Stephen right behind. Mike won the adult class with Myra and Laurie close behind. Congrats to all that participated.
Phil and Krista also brought a couple of kayaks for club members to use. Thank you Phil and Krista.
Geo-caching- is an outdoor sporting activity in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches". Phil and Krista put out caches throughout the park to be located. Prizes were awarded to everyone that participated. Thank you Phil and Krista.
The big fun was when a very quick storm front came through around noon and created 40 mph winds but no rain. We had a few people out on the paddleboards that got blown over. The storm front passed in 60 minutes and everything was back to normal. We had no rain but it did cool things off for a while. Otherwise we had a perfect weather day.
Thank you Diane Keen for a great time.
